MISSION

The idea of CONNECT emerged from the community brought together by Luciano Gattinoni and Federica Romitti.

Our shared experience transcends the mere fortune of having encountered these remarkable individuals; it resides in the profound connections they cultivated among us. Some act as gravitational forces, drawing people in, inspiring and connecting diverse minds. Even in their physical absence, the essence of their influence persists through the networks they initiated and the values they championed.

The void created by their departure is substantial, yet our commitment to honoring their legacy is equally profound. Thus, we have resolved to uphold the principles they instilled in us: curiosity, connection, and communication.

These three pillars are at the heart of CONNECT—a name that serves not only as an homage but also as a mission statement. Our objective is to elucidate and promote research in critical themes in intensive care medicine with clarity and accessibility, firmly anchored in empirical research and intellectual rigor, while being guided by a spirit of humanistic collaboration.

CONNECT is more than a mere initiative; it represents an evolving network of intellect and compassion, a forum where ideas are exchanged, inquiries are welcomed, and collaborative learning flourishes. It is a space where the inspiration ignited by two extraordinary individuals continues to guide our collective journey.

CONNECT will promote educational activities and scientific dissemination. Regular meetings will be scheduled, open to all members. Specifically, CONNECT will develop its research and growth themes through five areas of focus:

  • Acid-Base and Gas Exchange
  • Invasive and Non-Invasive Ventilation
  • Extracorporeal Technology
  • Metabolism and Homeostasis
  • Communication
